It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since our last reunion, much less 30 since we walked the halls of Bryan High. Where did all of the time go? And more important, where are all of you?
Reunions invoke different feelings for everyone, but underneath all of the anxiety, apprehension and suspense, there is an overwhelming desire to see old friends and classmates. Who’s married, who’s not, and how many kids, (or grandkids)? Who struck out into the world to make their mark, leaving this "not so small anymore" community that many of us still call home, and who never left? For those of you who have never returned, you may be in for quite a surprise! Even those who have remained are astounded by the changes. Go downtown, and try to recall watching the parade, or browsing through the five and dime, or watching a movie at the Palace Theatre. Or go by the old Manor East Mall. You won’t recognize it!
And, on the other hand, some things haven’t really changed at all. If you hit the bypass, you can still be from one end of town, to the other, in minutes. Texas A & M is still directly in the heart of the community, and much of the areas surrounding it are caught in a time warp. You can check out Northgate and, yeah, it still smells the same.(beer) There is still an air of small town spirit and concern that even your nosiest neighbor would fail to compare.
So here’s the punch line. It’s been 30 years! Count’em, ….. thirty. A high school reunion just doesn’t come up that often. And the 30 year only comes once. This one could truly be a landmark. We know you’re busy. All of us are. O.K. So you’re almost 50. When we were kids, this might have seemed old. It aint. The realty is, Class of 77 still looks great, inside and out. We haven’t changed a bit. Some of you are even better! (and it didn’t cost 6 million). They say you can never go back. But, for one weekend, on July 27th and 28th, 2007, you can come mighty close. Are you really going to want to do this in another 10 years? You may not have those dance moves down in a decade, but you can still get down today. Come on, don’t make us beg! Put this weekend on your calendar now. We are going to work hard to make this a memorable event, and we want maximum participation. We all need to spread the word. We’ve got the internet. Let’s use it!
Best wishes. Look forward to seeing you summer 2007!
